  • The Orton-Gillingham (OG) approach is the most effective method for helping children develop strong reading, writing, and spelling skills.

    The Orton-Gillingham (OG) method is:

    • Research-Based: Developed over 80 years ago, OG is supported by decades of success with students who struggle with literacy, especially those with dyslexia.

    • Multisensory: Students learn through seeing, hearing, and doing — making lessons engaging and memorable.

    • Structured and Sequential: Skills are introduced in a logical order, with each new step building on the last.

    • Individualized: Every child learns at their own pace, and lessons are tailored to meet their unique needs.

By focusing on both the process and the learner, Orton-Gillingham gives children the tools and confidence they need to become capable, independent readers.

  • Executive functioning skills are the “manager” of the brain — they help children plan, organize, and stay in control of their thoughts, actions, and emotions. These skills are important for success at school, at home, and in daily life.

    Key executive functioning skills include:

    • Attention and Focus – staying on task without getting distracted.

    • Organization – keeping track of schoolwork, schedules, and belongings.

    • Time Management – starting tasks on time and finishing them by deadlines.

    • Working Memory – remembering instructions, steps, and information.

    • Impulse Control – thinking before acting and making thoughtful choices.

    • Emotional Regulation – managing feelings in healthy, appropriate ways.

When children struggle with executive functioning, they may have trouble finishing homework, following routines, keeping track of their things, or handling big emotions.

The good news - Executive Functioning can be taught and strengthened. With guided practice, strategies, and support, children can build these skills and gain the confidence they need to become more independent and successful learners.
